greeting from Edinburgh!!
WE MADE IT!
and since we have some down time before we go out tonight i figured i would try to catch everyone up before i get too many days behind and say forget it.
i met misti at the Atlanta airport around 5 on sunday, and we flew off to NYC!
when we got to New York our friend Will picked us up!
and when we got to Wills apartment he and his roomate Terrance had cooked for us! it was soo good, a greek salad, rice and vegtables in a coconut curry sauce, and a easter bunny sundae. :)
after that we all walked around brooklyn, and had a tour of Pratt, the school Will graduated from and Terrance attends right now. They had a great courtyard filled with different sculptures.
We slept for about 3 hours at wills, and then he was sweet enough to get up at 5:45 and drive us to the airport. Our flight left for London at 9am EST.
We flew Virgin Atlantic, and if i have the choice, and i can afford it, i dont think i will fly with any other airline for the rest of my life. It was such an amazing flight. Every seat has its own tv, with 50+ new releases, great music, really good food, FREE DRINKS (apparently this is true for every international flight? i had no idea. ) they gave us gift bags with socks, sleeping masks, a toothbrush, toothpaste, pens, etc,. They even had an interactive map so you could see where you were, how far we were from London, the weather, everything. it was awesome. I know this picture is sideways but im not technologically advanced enough to figure out how to rotate it. enjoy.
when we landed we brushed our teeth in the bathroom in London :) haha.
We went through customs, but they were really nice to us. Didnt ask us too many questions. It took all of three minutes. Another London stamp on the passport!
The Tube!!! we didn't actually get on it, but we should have. We spent two hours waiting on an overnight bus in the freezing cold instead!
This was our overnight bus to scotland. We left London around 11:30 pm (London time) and arrived in Edinburgh around 7:45am. We were hoping to sleep some, but the bus was completely full and it was not the smoothest ride. We did make friends with our bus drivers, Danny and Andy. They love cinnamon chewing gum. Ha!
These are some pictures from the Scottish countryside as the sun came up on the bus. They arent the best pictures, we were on a very bumpy bus driving 60+ mph and taking all of them through a very dirty window. BUT they are enough to show you how beautiful it was. Scotland is such an inviting country. amazing, truly, watching the sun rise behind birch trees growing on snowy hillsides. not a bad way to start the day.
When we finally got Edinburgh we met up with Leah and took the "five minute walk" to her place. Its small but cozy, perfect for catching up and telling stories.
Edinburgh is almost all completely in its original state, old buildings, beautiful views, completely wonderful. They actually changed the capital of Scotland from Glasgow to Edinburgh a while back because Edinburgh is so beautiful. :)
For Dinner we went to the Mosque. As a form of ministry they feed everyone these huge meals for 3 pounds. I had chicken, rice and vegetables. It was so much food i couldn't even finish it all. (and we all know how much i can eat! so thats saying a lot.)
and if any of you kept up with my last trip, you know how much Misti loves the grocery stores. We wandered around the Tesco for a good 45 minutes. but we stocked up on all the essentials for the week that we will be here. Bought enough groceries that we will hopefully eat in for 2 meals a day and have one good traditional meal a day out somewhere in the city. We also bought every type of chocolate candy we could find. :) haha.
i suppose thats all!! Were going out now to a local pub called "the Tron" with James. Should be fun! More updates soon to come!!
Hope you are all doing well.
love from across the pond
